“Big Boss” Zero Turn Mower

Responding to increased demand for more productive zero turn mowers, Kubota Australia has just released a new model “zero turn” mower.

With 28 horsepower, a 72-inch mower deck, blade tip speed of 18,500 fpm and extra legroom, the new Kubota ZD28 has the acceleration, cutting performance and comfort to become the “Big Boss” among mowers of its type.

Powered by a Kubota three-cylinder diesel engine, the ZD28 is ideal for contractors and government departments with large areas to mow in the shortest possible time.

The liquid cooled diesel engine addresses operator concerns over the durability and longevity of air-cooled petrol engine mowers. Incorporating Kubota’s exclusive Three Vortex Combustion System, the high torque engine produces low emissions and delivers outstanding fuel economy to dramatically reduce running costs. The Kubota diesel engine also runs smoothly and quietly — a welcome relief for operators annoyed by noisy petrol engine machines. Long continuous operating periods are possible without re-fuelling thanks to the large capacity fuel tank (30 litres).

Unlike conventional zero turn mowers with high maintenance belt driven transmissions, Kubota’s ZD28 features two hydrostatic transmissions with gear reduction drive for superior responsiveness and durability. Aside from the occasional oil change, this twin hydrostatic transmission requires no maintenance and is manufactured by Kubota to handle tough mowing conditions and terrain. Two ranges with top speeds of 8 and 15 kph are standard.

Cast iron pulleys and a multi belt drive system like those used on other commercial Kubota mowers enhance the durability of the three blade mower deck. Noise levels are minimized and power to the deck is transferred smoothly via a wear resistant, wet-type, multi-disc PTO clutch.

Hydraulic raising and lowering of the deck is much easier than mechanical lever-type systems found on conventional machines, and the 1 – 5 inch cutting height is adjusted quickly from the seated position with the turn of a dial. The quality of cut is assisted by the parallel linkage which allows the mower deck to follow ground contours without scalping.

A unique tilt-up mechanism raises the front of the machine without having to remove the mower. It’s like a built-in jack that lifts the machine to allow periodic deck maintenance without fuss or delay.

Unlike conventional zero turn mowers, the Kubota ZD28 features pivoting front wheels. They can pivot up to 15 degrees, keeping the mower deck in contact with the ground and therefore able to cut when dips and bumps are encountered.

These numerous engineering refinements are complemented by a comfortable seat complete with arm rests and suspension. This gives operators an extra level of back support and comfort for reduced fatigue even after long hours on the job.
In addition, frequently used levers, controls and instruments are located within easy reach to the right of the operator.

While many conventional zero turn mowers have a fairly basic agricultural appearance, the Kubota ZD28 looks as good as it performs due to superior engineering and contemporary design.

To complete the package the ZD28 is supplied with a two-post safety frame as standard equipment.
